Press release

Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said one of his deputies arrested a wanted man Wednesday.

Austin Magee, 20, was arrested in the Cherokee Shores subdivision of Payne Springs just after lunch by Deputy Matt Jistel and was charged with possession of methamphetamines, evading arrest and tampering with evidence.

Earlier in the week, Magee was spotted by the Deputy when he abandoned his bicycle and fled.

Wednesday, he was caught after he again dropped his bike and ran behind a residence in the 100 block of Huntoon Trail.

Prior to complying with the Deputy’s order to drop to the ground, Magee threw several items away. The Deputy recovered a needle, spoons, a glass pipe, an airsoft gun and methamphetamines in a pill bottle and baggies in a backpack.

He was charged with the outstanding warrant and was booked for evading arrest or detention, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence because he tried and failed to dispose of the contraband.

“These types of arrest not only get users and dealers off the streets and out of our neighborhoods,” Sheriff Hillhouse said, “but they also send the right message to all these folks – we don’t quit.

“If you are breaking the law in Henderson County, we will find you and you will go to jail. It is just that simple,” he said.
